The Green Party was the first to present its party leadership in Almedalen. Biodiversity, consumer culture and extreme weather were recurring themes during the speech. Per Bolund's solution to environmental problems is based on man's ability to change - and a change with the help of the environmental party's policy.
- Hello all friends of diversity, Per Bolund began his first Almedal speech as the environmental party's spokesman.
With diversity, he referred to the cultural - but especially the biological diversity that characterized his speech. He believes that we can no longer point to "poachers far away" as the villain for reducing biodiversity. According to a UN report, to which Bolund refers, one million of the planet's more than eight million species are endangered. This, he believes, should be top news.
Bolund believes that we can no longer turn a blind eye to the consequences of our actions, such as the culture of consumption.
According to a new report from the UN it takes 7500 liters of water to produce a pair of jeans. It is as much as a person drinks in 7 years. But that cost is not visible on the price tag, he says.
Per Bolund continues to reject the buy-and-throw and "Fast Fashion" culture.
The mouthpiece also refers to the record heat and heat wave across Europe. The extreme summer is about to become the normal state, and he therefore wonders what will be the extreme weather of the future - when this is the new normal.
Bolund is nevertheless very positive about the human ability to change and emphasizes the importance of supporting that will through politics.
"Green is not just a color, it is an attitude" was a recurring phrase during the speech and Bolund has set itself up for a change in society. It should not be profitable to use non-renewable fuels.
- Now, thanks to politics and technology, the future is renewable. Not unprofitable coal, not unprofitable oil, or fantasy-dependent nuclear power, said Bolund and glanced at the Moderate Youth Union's banner with the text “Nuclear power? - Yes thank you".
The problem picture in the speech concerned the climate and environment, which are undeniably global in their scope. When measures were taken, however, there was a narrower focus on domestic and EU policy. Suggestions on how the international community should work to achieve sustainability and diversity goals shone with their absence.
