Advocacy

ActionAid Sweden is an aid organization and part of the global ActionAid federation that exists in 46 countries worldwide. We work to reduce poverty and injustice with a particular focus on strengthening the rights of girls and women, because equality is a prerequisite for sustainable development.

With a presence in several of the world's most vulnerable countries, ActionAid has the power and knowledge required to work both long-term and in humanitarian emergencies.

We always start from the inherent power of each individual and work at the grassroots level, together with other local organizations and the girls and women whose rights we are tasked with defending and strengthening. They are the ones who lead, develop and drive the work forward.

We are proud to be an organization based on feminist leadership principles where our organizational culture is characterized by justice, equality, respect and non-discrimination.

We are religiously and politically unbound. All activities are conducted with the support of private individuals, companies, institutional donors and foundations. ActionAid was founded in 1972 and has been in Sweden since 2006.

Our goal is for all children to have the opportunity for long-term positive development, in a safe environment where their rights are met. Our work has a special focus on girls because the world is not equal and girls belong to one of the most discriminated groups in the world. All our work is based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Convention on Women and the goals of Agenda 2030. All over the world, girls are discriminated against and exposed. They often receive less food, care and the opportunity to develop. The work for gender equality must therefore start early – from day one.
