Kyrgyzstan may be considered a hybrid regime, but when it comes to upholding human rights the country is seen as one of the most progressive ones in Central Asia. It is even referred to as an ”island of democracy” in the region, but is this human rights development also experienced by women?
In order to find out how the view of Kyrgyz women and their enjoyment of rights has changed over time researcher Aisuluu has dived into articles of the 1960’s journal Kyrgyzstan Ayaldary and studied policy changes enacted after Kyrgyzstan gained independence from the Soviet union in 1991.
