China is at the forefront of a digital financial inclusion revolution. How does this affect the countryside? What kind of technologies and initiatives are actually being implemented in the interest of these dreams of financialized development? Join us to discuss these issues.
Nicholas Loubere, Associate Professor at the Center for East and South-East Asian Studies at Lund University, will join us for an evening seminar on the topic of microcredit, digital finance, and development in rural China. Nicholas researches contemporary Chinese socioeconomic development, both locally and its global manifestations. One of his main strands of research examines how the implementation of microcredit programs impact on livelihoods and local development in rural China, along with new forms of digital finance in the countryside.
