Seminar: What’s going on in Myanmar?

A South-East Asian country with a complex political history containing military coups, civil war and ethnic cleansing. In the recent military coup on 1 February 2021, the State Counsellor of Myanmar and Noble Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi was detained and once again put in house arrest. With history seemingly repeating itself and with the growing protests against the military in Myanmar, one cannot help to wonder: Why? For what reason? What will happen next?
To dissect this topic and address our questions we will be joined by Dr Michał Lubina from the institute of Middle and Far East Studies at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. He holds a PhD in Political Science and is the author of several books surrounding Sino-Russian relations, as well as Myanmar.
