After decades of colonisation, imperialism and exploitation, how is the relationship between western European countries and Africa?
With the help of Dr Amzat Boukari-Yabara and Jesper Bjarnesen this event will open up for new perspectives and ideas surrounding international relations with Africa, more specifically West-Africa.
The panelists
Dr Amzat Boukari-Yabara is a committed scholar specialized in Pan-Africanism and French neocolonialism (Françafrique). Jesper Bjarnesen is a senior researcher at the Nordic Africa Institute and an associate professor in cultural anthropology with an interest in migration and mobility through wartime and peace in West Africa. He is also the founder of AEGIS Collaborative Research Group on African Migration, Mobility, and Displacement.
This event will cover key ideas and discussions surrounding international relations with West-Africa from different perspectives. Dr Amzat Boukari-Yabara will discuss this subject through the stance of his book about the relations between France and their former colonies ”L’empire qui ne veut pas mourir, l’histoire de Franceafrique”, meanwhile also focusing on the Sahel region and Mali. Meanwhile, Jesper will provide a perspective on Sweden’s relationship to west Africa and Mali including historical and modern colonialism and slavery, ad military contributions.

Towards the end of the presentation, the speaker will answer questions from the participants and open up for a wider discussion within the group. The event is moderated by FUF:s local group Stockholm Södra’s event group and held in English.
