Worlds apart: Europe & Africa in Global Migration Governance

We would like to invite you to our very first digital lecture that will be held on the 14th of May, between 18.00 – 19.00 via Zoom. In this lecture, Jesper Bjarnesen, an anthropologist and senior researcher at the Nordic Africa Institute, joins us as the guest lecturer. His work mainly focuses on migration and mobility through wartime and peace in West Africa.

The framing of the lecture has a policy-oriented focus as it reviews the predominant migration policies post-refugee crisis. The presentation emphasises the confrontation between European and African policy makers over migration governance, and addresses some of the most common misperceptions about the scale and nature of African migration.

The lecture is structured as 45 minutes of speech and 15 minutes of Q&A. Participation is open for everyone, therefore a sign-up is not necessary.
