Without women - no peace

Of: ANITA KLUM, Annika Schabbauer, Eva Zetterberg, Frida Wallander and Stina Larsson

Today, half of the world's population is excluded from peace processes. Women are excluded from both mediation and decisions on peace and security. To achieve lasting peace, women need to be included and have power in peace processes, write five representatives of Operation 1325.

Hey guys! Tyra Bergmar here! I'm one of FUF's Hello, friends! Tyra Bergmar here! I am one of FUF's foreign correspondents during the spring and have previously been active in the social media creators. This weekend I will take over FUF's events and tell you about a "sewing house" where young girls are trained to sew reusable sanitary napkins. I am in my last semester of the bachelor's program in global development with a focus on political science, and right now I am on a field study in the Mashonaland region of Zimbabwe. In a few weeks I will also be going on to Maputo province in Mozambique. During the field study I will be following three collaborating NGOs that work for children's rights, with a particular focus on the rights of girls and young women. Much of the work is about strengthening the opportunities for girls who have been forced to leave school to be able to return to their studies. Their work also includes SRHR (sexual and reproductive health and rights). These are issues that are close to my heart and I am really looking forward to sharing my experiences and knowledge from the work on site here in Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Want to know more about this? Keep an eye on FUF's channels during the spring! All the best until then! Pictures: 1. A freshly sewn reusable sanitary napkin. 2. Me talking about social media creators at an info meeting about FUF. 3. The sewing machine with which the sanitary napkins are sewn. #fufkorrespondenterna

Fighting between government forces and the opposition in Fighting between government forces and the opposition in South Sudan has escalated since the end of December, UNOCHA warns. Opposition forces linked to Vice President Riek Machar then launched an offensive against the transitional government. Daniel Akech, senior analyst at the International Crisis Group, writes in an analysis that the development could drag the country back into a new civil war. The latest offensive follows the imprisonment of Riek Machar and several individuals loyal to him in September last year. According to the BBC, Machar is accused of being behind an attack in March 2025 in which 250 soldiers and a general were killed. Spokespeople for Machar, for their part, believe that the accusations are politically orchestrated. In anticipation of new military attacks, the government army has ordered civilians and aid workers to leave areas controlled by the opposition. More than 280,000 people have already been forced to evacuate according to the UN humanitarian agency UNOCHA, and reports describe bombings, increased violence against civilians and severe restrictions on humanitarian aid. The UN agency estimates that 10 million people, two-thirds of the population, are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. In 2011, South Sudan became the world's youngest state. The first general elections were to be held in 2015, but the next few years were followed by civil war between forces loyal to Machar and Kiir. A peace agreement was signed in 2018. But general elections have not yet taken place. Analysts say that Kiir appears to be trying to consolidate his power. The think tank Institute for Strategic Studies writes in an analysis that this autumn's government reshuffle is one in a series in which Kiir has replaced critical government representatives. The conversation is arranged on the occasion of David Isaksson being awarded the 2025 FUF Prize for “his long-term and committed journalistic work and for his role as founder, and editor-in-chief, of Global Bar Magazine. Through knowledge-based and independent coverage, he has contributed to increased information, debate and political conversations about aid and global development issues. A work that is particularly important at a time when international solidarity and aid are under attack both as an idea and practice.” @davidglobal, @lindbergstaffan @globalbarmagazine @dagens_nyheter
After a year in which the US largely abandoned all of its After a year in which the United States largely abandoned all of its international aid commitments, the US Congress last week hammered through a government budget that allocates $50 billion for the State Department, foreign affairs and related programs, including international aid, through September 2026. If the budget is voted through by the Senate, the money will be distributed among military aid, efforts to promote democracy, but also projects to promote global health, such as projects to eradicate HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis. According to the news agency NPR, humanitarian organizations are cautiously positive that support for international aid appears to be present among both Democrats and Republicans. And while the budget has been criticized for representing a 16 percent reduction compared to the original 2025 budget, it represents an increase in ambition compared to the budget request of $31 billion that the Trump administration originally requested.
