After weeks of protests in Mauritius, a motion of censure is currently pending against the government as a result of increased living costs - which has led to a debate in parliament.

After the European Court of Justice annulled earlier After the European Court of Justice annulled previous trade agreements with Morocco, the Union has adopted a new clause to be able to trade in products from Western Sahara on a legal basis. But human rights organizations and experts question whether the Sahrawi people have been given a say and whether the agreement truly respects their right to self-determination. Our traveling correspondent Felicia explains what has happened. #fufkorrespondenterna

A few weeks ago, the world's leaders met A few weeks ago, world leaders met in New York. Or well, almost all of them. Palestinian representatives were allowed to participate via link after being denied entry visas by the US. Demands for reform poured in during the 80th opening of the UN General Assembly, including from African leaders who demanded a permanent seat on the Security Council. Our writer Nora Sargin has scanned the reporting on the meeting and made some observations. At the same meeting, US President Trump took the podium. He was scheduled for 15 minutes, but spoke for over an hour. The president managed to discuss a wide range of topics, including the inadequacy of the UN, his "excellent" domestic policy and the first lady's physique. Trump also took the opportunity to give a thumbs up to global migration cooperation. That the same person who just described refugee flows as "invasions" could dictate the fate of 14 million Palestinians in exile is something that worries FUF's Brussels correspondent Signe M. Andersson. The news came a few days ago that the Swedish government is nominating the outgoing CEO of Ingka Group, Jesper Brodin, to the position of head of the UN refugee agency UNHCR. In a press release, Minister of Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa says that "a person is needed who knows how to hold tight to the money and deliver effective operations". UNHCR is in a tricky financial situation, to say the least. The number of refugees is increasing, but resources are decreasing. The outgoing head Filippo Grandi recently appealed to donors for 300 million US dollars in flexible funds before the end of the year. Read more in Fredrik Govenius' article about UNHCR's financial situation.
Zimbabwe is one of the world's most unequal countries Zimbabwe is one of the world's most unequal economies. Since the 2010s, the gap between rich and poor has widened rapidly, driven by colonial land structures, currency crises and recurring climate shocks. While income and wealth are concentrated at the top, many households struggle with high living costs, insecure incomes and lack of access to basic services. In Harare, inequality is clearly visible in the Mbare area, where the informal economy keeps life going despite a lack of investment. Inequality not only slows down growth, it also undermines the ability to build a strong middle class and increases pressure on migration. Philip Kylilis is one of this autumn's FUF correspondents and reports from Zimbabwe. In this post, he explains how the country's economy has become what it is today. #furcorrespondents

Hi! My name is Philip and I am one of this fall's FUF-k Hi! My name is Philip and I am one of this autumn's FUF correspondents. Right now I am in Harare where I am doing my internship at IOM (International Organization for Migration). In my spare time I am a master's student in "International Development", at Sciences Po in Paris, with a focus on diplomacy and African studies. I am particularly passionate about issues of peace, development and migration and these are also the themes I will be reporting on here this autumn. See you!
