EU cooperation in focus in this week's debate

EU flag and coronavirus

Of: Frida Åberg

In connection with Europe Day on 9 May, EU cooperation became the topic of the week. A number of debaters mentioned that solidarity between member states is currently being tested - both by the corona pandemic and by a lack of respect for human rights in, for example, Poland and Hungary. Other topics that were debated were global trade and women's rights.

Every year @rightlivelihood awards people and organizations Every year @rightlivelihood awards people and organizations working to make the world a better place. During the 2025 price ceremony, FUF social media creators Binta and Emma caught some of the winners right after the gala — excited, glowing, and slightly overwhelmed with all the cameras. Stay tuned for part two were the winners share what brings them hope. About the laureates: Audrey Tang, @digitalminister.one, was awarded for advancing the social use of digital technology to empower citizens, renew democracy, and heal divides. Julian Aguon, @julianaguon, @blueoceanlaw, is a lawyer who took the call for climate justice to the world's highest court. Helping make climate action a legal responsibility. Belyndar M. Rikimani–Sina and Solomon Y., represented Pacific Islands Students Fighting Climate Change. @pisfcc was awarded for bringing climate justice to the world's highest court and making survival a legal right, especially for frontline communities facing rising seas and loss of home. Alsanosi Adam represented Emergency Response Rooms (ERRs) @lcc_sudan , a community-led, volunteer network in Sudan that coordinates life-saving aid such as healthcare, food and civilian protection during the war. They operate through local grassroots structures and digital tools, stepping in where state and international systems have failed.

It is now clear that David Isaksson, editor-in-chief It is now clear that David Isaksson, editor-in-chief and founder of Global Bar Magazine, will receive the 2025 FUF Prize. The board justified the choice of the 2025 FUF Prize winner as follows: "David Isaksson is awarded the 2025 FUF Prize for his long-standing and committed journalistic work and for his role as founder and editor-in-chief of Global Bar Magazine. Through knowledge-based and independent coverage, he has contributed to increased information, debate and political conversations about aid and global development issues. A work that is particularly important at a time when international solidarity and aid are under attack both as an idea and practice." The development magazine managed to exchange a few words with the winner, who is currently in the city of Ahmedabad in India. Anyone can nominate for the FUF Prize. The main rule is that it should be a person or organization in Sweden that you believe has made particularly good efforts that promote sustainable global development. Read more at fuf.se!
Are you thinking about what to give as a gift for Christmas? Are you thinking about what to give as a Christmas present? Maybe a book and a membership in FUF's book club?! Here are two tips from the members of the book club. 🎁 Erika Bjerström – Democracy dies in the heat At COP30 in Belém, the promises were many, but the action was missing. It is believed that words are long. Climate policy is failing in country after country, and democracy is fumbling without a supporting hand. The conditions of journalism are pressured and cramped, perhaps that is why this book sparks conversation with many. 🎁 Dani Rodrik – Shared Prosperity in a Fractured World A world that is breaking, where gaps are increasing, how do we share prosperity when cohesion is increasingly lacking? This package provides perspectives on economics and politics, and how future prosperity can be more just and equal. But this book is not just for your shelf, it wants to be a conversation, and fill thoughts. On January 28 at five o'clock at Medborgarplatsen, the book club will meet again. Today at 11 am we will be doing a live here on Instagram with an Today at 11 am we will be running a live here on Instagram on the occasion of the Swedish government's decision to discontinue bilateral development cooperation with Tanzania. This is happening at a time when Tanzania is developing in an increasingly authoritarian direction. What has characterized Sweden's and Tanzania's 60-year development cooperation? How has the country developed during this period? What consequences could Sweden's decision to discontinue bilateral aid have? We will explore these questions together with Jonas Ewald, lecturer in peace and development studies at Linnaeus University and Tanzania expert. Welcome to stop by and ask your questions!
