The destruction of the Amazon, the lungs of the earth, threatens biodiversity as well as the rights and lives of indigenous peoples. Alarming reports of deforestation of an area as large as France and images of burning primeval forest arouse strong feelings in many and a desire to be able to help - and we in Sweden can be involved and influence.

A hot topic in last week's debate was the ongoing migrant crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border. Some debaters emphasize the importance of resisting pressure from the Belarusian dictatorship and preventing a recurrence of the refugee crisis in 2015. At the same time, other voices are raising the EU's moral responsibility towards migrants.

The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has reduced gender equality in the world and the UN Secretary-General has referred to gender-based violence as the "shadow pandemic". At the UN conference LDC Future Forum in Helsinki, researchers state that women must be included in politics and the labor market if we are to achieve more peaceful, fair and inclusive societies.
