Everyone wins on free trade agreements between the EU and the USA

Of: Christopher Fjellner

The EU-US Free Trade Agreement would also facilitate trade for third countries. They get a set of rules to adapt to, instead of two. In addition, the agreement leads to increased demand for products from low-income countries. That is why everyone benefits from the free trade agreement, writes MEP Christofer Fjellner (M).

Can trade and aid go hand in hand - or risk Can trade and aid go hand in hand - or do Swedish export interests risk controlling development policy? The Swedish government's reform agenda seeks increased interaction between trade interests and aid goals. But what does experience say so far? FUF talks to Sida's own experts about what has actually happened with trade aid since the reform was launched. 🗓️ May 21, 15:00 - 15:45 📺 Watch live on our Youtube channel @fufplay. My name is Iveren Evelyn Nor! I am a Master's stud My name is Iveren Evelyn Nor! I am a Master's student in Sustainable Development at University West in Trollhättan, with a background in Agricultural Economics and Extension from the University of Agriculture in Makurdi, Nigeria 🇳🇬 I have a strong interest in sustainable agriculture, rural development, food systems, community resilience, gender inclusion, and development cooperation. 🌾 Before starting my Master's program and subsequent internship, I gained hands-on experience working across the agricultural sector with smallholder women farmers and farming communities across different states in Nigeria. I also worked in the education sector as a Project Coordinator, implementing projects in line with donor service level agreements. Interning at @sianiagri has been a truly rewarding experience, offering the opportunity to engage with global conversations and collaborations around sustainable food systems and development. I have had great networking opportunities as well as have been exposed to the development cooperation not only in Sweden but within the EU and some African countries especially where SIANI/SEI work. During my internship at SIANI, I've had the opportunity to support different activities connected to sustainable and resilient food systems. Some of my tasks have included supporting in the writing and MEL analysis of SIANI's annual reporting, as well as communications work through developing blog posts for the SIANI website and creating social media content. I also supported the Agroecology Day held at SLU's Alnarp Farms near Malmö; the theme was “From Niches to Norm: Agroforestry and Perennials for Resilient Food Futures.” This was a great opportunity to engage with discussions and practices around agroecology and sustainable agriculture. Another insightful experience was representing SIANI at the FOCALI Annual Meeting, where I had the chance to learn from and connect with professionals working across climate, environment, and development sectors. 📣 Follow me tomorrow, Tuesday May 19th, here in stories where I will share more about my work at SIANI!

Hello! My name is Liv and I am an intern at @right Hello! My name is Liv and I am an intern at @rightlivelihood throug@fuf.se's internship program. Today you get to go to work with me. Please ask me any questions you have about Right Livelihood and interning through FUF. 💛 Here's the inside scoop on interning at Right Livelihood - and some tips for your next internship 👇 What does Right Livelihood work with? Right Livelihood celebrates change‑makers and provides lifelong support to help advance their work for lasting social impact. Each year, four Laureates receive the Right Livelihood Award - laying the foundation to elevate them in global conversations and amplify their solutions worldwide. What do I work with? Working on the digital side of communications means I create content for their social media channels, write a visual story for their website, film and interview Laureates, edit visuals, and support cross-team projects that involve digital comms. What does a typical day at work look like? A typical day at work varies depending on the day of the week! Some days focus more on meetings while others involve video editing, story writing, social media research and occasionally filming or interviewing Laureates and going to their events! Why did I choose this internship? To explore career paths I hadn't considered before, especially since my studies are in a completely different field. My future plans? I'm still figuring out my future plans but this internship has opened up a new interest in potentially pursuing similar work, equipped me with new skills, and uncovered hidden strengths.
Petra Dorau: When I first came to Sicily Petra Dorau: When I first came to Sicily in 1989, it was actually to work as a secretary for a German construction company. Italy had been my dream country since I was little – I wanted to escape the cold of Northern Germany and loved the language, the music and the food. The people here were so open, and unlike the more strict Germany, it felt like you could always find a solution to everything. I immediately fell in love with Sicily, and with the man who would become the father of my children. But building a life here was not always easy. We bought land in a natural park where the building regulations were extremely complicated, and for a while I had to work 10- to 12-hour shifts in a cookie factory so that we could afford to get by. After ten years together, we decided to separate. The fact that I, as a young woman, was the one who chose to leave was not at all normal in Sicilian culture, it is usually the man who takes that step. Many people probably thought I would move back to Germany, but I wanted my children to grow up here, in the place where they were born. To earn an income, I started carpentry. For almost ten years, I made and sold furniture, toy boxes and rocking horses at various markets. I have loved animals ever since I was little and started with turtles before saving up for my very first dog. My biggest dream was always to have a horse. However, my ex-partner never wanted me to get involved with horses, he considered it a 'man's job'. But after the separation, when I was on my own two feet, I decided to take the plunge. I bought my very first horse, which I rescued from a slaughterhouse. I went to northern Italy to train, got a license to teach children and eventually started my own riding center. Today, horses are my life. Interview by: Svea Mangili, FUF's correspondent in Sicily, spring 2026.
