FUF award ceremony and discussion on the role of foreign journalism in a changing world
It is often said that no party wins parliamentary seats on its aid or foreign policy. At the same time, we know that media coverage shapes our worldview and has the power to influence political decisions.
In recent years, global issues and international solidarity have become the hot topic in the media. Some of the world's largest donor countries are cutting back on their aid, and Sweden is undergoing the largest restructuring of its aid policy in modern times. This is happening at a time when the number of conflicts in the world is increasing, the global balance of power is changing, and income gaps are widening.
Against this backdrop, the question of how the world is portrayed in the media is more important than it has been in a long time. Despite the world becoming increasingly interconnected, only a few places and perspectives have an impact on the news flow. Why do certain countries and issues dominate reporting while others are left in the shadows? How can foreign journalism be broadened and nuanced to provide a more accurate picture of the world? How is aid scrutinized in today's media, and who is responsible for the coverage?

The conversation is arranged on the occasion of David Isaksson being awarded the 2025 FUF Prize for “"for his long-standing and committed journalistic work and for his role as founder, and editor-in-chief, of Global Bar Magazine. Through knowledge-based and independent coverage, he has contributed to increased information, debate and political conversation about aid and global development issues. A work that is particularly important at a time when international solidarity and aid are under attack both as an idea and practice."
