Resolution 1325 and international defense work

UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security was adopted in 2000. The resolution was adopted as civilians became more and more vulnerable to armed conflict and women were often excluded from peace processes. But why is it important to implement a gender perspective in international peace work? What are the challenges?
