Concerns about terrorist threats and extremism have increased among the Swedish population as a result of the increased terrorist threat level in 2023, according to a Novus examination. But what is actually meant by extremism and what are the different aspects of the concept? And what can be done to counter violent extremism?
The local group FUF Stockholm Södra invites you to a panel discussion on Tuesday January 9 at 17:30 to 19:00 where we delve deeply into the subject of violent extremism and terrorism from a national and international perspective. Three knowledgeable panelists will discuss, among other things, the concept of extremism, why some people end up in violent extremism and the role of civil society in countering extremism and terrorism. Together we will reflect on how we can work to create positive change locally and globally through, for example, increased inclusion, knowledge and dialogue.
Tonight's panelist
- Elias Carlberg: Advisor and expert at the Center against Violent Extremism. His areas of expertise are civil society and religious communities, and he has extensive experience in working with dialogue and community development.
- Peter Lagerqvist: Freelance writer and affiliated researcher at the Department of Social Anthropology at Stockholm University. He has reported from Palestine and Israel for a number of daily newspapers such as The Guardian and The New York Times.
- Joanna Lindström: Postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Psychology at Uppsala University. She recently completed her doctorate at Stockholm University on psychological explanations for why individuals are drawn to violent extremism.

The event is held at FUF's office at Ehrensvärdsgatan 4. The venue is half a flight of stairs down without a lift and unfortunately there is no ear loop in the venue.
