Kazakh politics rarely reaches the Swedish media and Central Asia is often a general blank spot to the Swedish public. After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, analysts fear that countries in Central Asia could be the next target for a Russian invasion. The president of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, recently said the country will continue to follow the Western sanctions against Russia, a statement that could be seen as Kazakhstan is distancing itself from Russia.

Dr. Diana Kudaibergenova, Assistant professor in Political sociology at Cambridge University, UK. She is currently working on her third book manuscript on Power, state, and resistance in contemporary art of the post-Soviet Eurasia and works on a new project dealing with state/regime theory.
Zhanibek Arynov, Assistant Professor at Nazarbayev University in Kazakhstan. His research interests include Central Asian geopolitics and Kazakhstan's foreign policy. He is currently working on a project related to legitimacy and (de)legitimation of international organizations with a specific focus on the Eurasian Economic Union.
