FUF enters the fall with continued major financial challenges. Since the turn of the year 2022/2023, when the government grants that previously financed our operations began to be dismantled, we have been step by step restructuring the organization to be able to continue our work.
A crucial part of the transition has been to develop our commissioned work, within the framework of our purpose and our core values. Through our F-tax slip, we currently carry out assignments for, among others, Sida and several civil society organizations. The income from these assignments forms a foundation for financing FUF's operations – not least the Internship Program, but also other parts of the operation. Support and donations from our members are also crucial for us to be able to conduct, among other things, seminar activities and our work to engage and educate young people.
The commission income, the support from our members and the equity that FUF has built up over the past decade have together made it possible for us to continue operating even though we currently lack project and program grants.
Changes for the fall
During the spring, the board decided on further organizational changes to adapt the operations to the economic situation. In order to retain staff during the autumn and create space for the continued transition, the board decided to invest more of FUF's equity in 2026 than originally budgeted.
Despite the investment, FUF has fewer personnel resources in the fall than in the spring. Some roles and tasks have been merged and the level of ambition therefore needs to be lowered within parts of the operation. This also means that more tasks need to be taken care of by the board, working groups and volunteer members.
The investment gives us time and space to continue the transformation ahead of 2027, but financing the business with equity is not a long-term solution. In recent years, we have used a significant portion of this capital, and that buffer is not unlimited.
An uncertain 2027 – so you can make a difference
Ahead of 2027, we need to be prepared for further changes. The election outcome in September and the subsequent direction of aid policy may affect our future funding opportunities. Of particular importance is the continued funding of the Internship Program, which is also of great importance for FUF's ability to conduct other activities. Regardless of the election outcome, we will have less equity to contribute next year. During the autumn, the board will therefore work on which activities and human resources FUF should prioritize based on different economic conditions ahead of 2027.
In parallel, we continue to work on finding new income and funding sources – and here we need your help. Do you know of a foundation, fund or other financier that could be relevant for FUF?
