Before the election, FUF opened a question box on Instagram and asked followers to submit their thoughts on the world in the Swedish election. CONCORD Sweden, ForumCiv, Naturethe protection association and Diaconiaa answerede to questions about the decrease in global aid, Sweden's importance as an aid donor, the one percent target, climate policy and Sweden's relationship with Israel.

Swedish aid should have democracy and human rights as its starting point and goal. At least one percent of the gross national income (GNI) should be allocated to international aid. This is what the Christian Democrats write on their website. At the same time, the Tidö government has reduced aid and stated that Sweden's international aid should benefit Swedish interests. When FUF asks five of the eight parliamentary parties what they want to do with the aid, they agree that the aid should contribute to development and humanitarian support. But they disagree on how much Sweden should invest, where the money should go and what role the aid should play in trade and migration policy. Ahead of the 2026 election, FUF has contacted all parliamentary parties and asked to interview them about their views on aid. This text will be updated as more party hearings are conducted.

What did the party leaders say about global issues in their Almedalen speeches? - and what didn't they say? FUF listened to all eight speeches. Despite a troubled international situation, the focus was primarily on Swedish domestic policy. Global issues were overall limited space, even if climate, war, security and assistance was mentioned in some of the speeches.
